You will probably find them in the spring on the AuSable right now, testing out some equipment they worked on back in January and February, just waiting for this day to arrive -- a group of local friends.
This group has been meeting together once a week during the winter months to tie flies for fly fishing for years. Their skills vary considerably, but their love of the sport unifies them.
According to group leader and Old AuSable Fly Shop owner, Andy Partlo,“We’ve been getting together since 2008. Except a few because of COVID.”
Northern Michigan winters can be long and lonely at times. Gatherings like this gives local
fishermen a chance to get together and chat, as well as make flies, while they are missing
time on the river.
For more information on this group, contact Andy at (989) 348-3330.
(L-R) Sam Humbert of Frederic, Gene Williams and John Williams of Grayling work on some blue gill flies.
Veteran fly tier, Rob Woodland works on his own flies and enjoys
the company of others with the same interests.
